Sunglasses Care Guide

A little care goes a long way. Here is how to clean sunglasses properly, look after polarised and mirrored lenses, and keep your Havaners® looking sharp for years.

How to clean sunglasses in four steps

1. Rinse first. Run your sunglasses under cool or lukewarm water to wash away sand, salt and dust. Wiping grit across a dry lens is the quickest way to scratch it.
2. Wash if needed. For greasy marks, use a drop of mild washing-up liquid on your fingertips and gently rub both sides of the lenses and the frame.
3. Rinse again. Wash off all the soap with clean water.
4. Dry with microfibre. Shake off the water, then pat dry with a clean microfibre cloth, like the one that comes in the box with every pair.

Polarised and mirrored lenses

Polarised and mirrored lenses have coatings that deserve a gentle touch. Stick to water, mild soap and microfibre. Skip glass cleaner, household sprays, vinegar and anything with ammonia or a lot of alcohol, as they can strip or cloud the coating over time. What not to do

• Do not wipe your lenses with a T-shirt, paper towels or tissues. They can trap grit and leave fine scratches.
• Do not try toothpaste or baking soda on scratches. They are abrasive and will damage the lens coating.
• Do not leave your sunglasses on a hot dashboard or in direct heat for long periods, which can warp frames and damage coatings.
• Do not put them lens down on a table or push them up into your hair, where they can stretch.

Storing your sunglasses

When you are not wearing them, keep your sunglasses in their drawstring pouch or a protective case. It stops scratches, bent arms and accidental damage in bags and pockets. Everyday handling
