Sunglasses Size Guide

Frame 141 mm · Lens 54 mm · Bridge 18 mm

Great sunglasses come down to fit as much as looks. Too big and they slide down your nose, too small and they pinch. Here's how to read sunglasses measurements, check your size with a pair you already own, and find the Havaners frame that fits.

The five measurements that matter

  • Frame width. The full width across the front, hinge to hinge. This is the number that tells you most about how big a pair will look on your face.
  • Lens width. How wide each lens is at its widest point.
  • Lens height. How tall each lens is. Taller lenses give more coverage from the sides and below.
  • Bridge width. The gap between the lenses that sits on your nose. A narrow bridge suits a narrow nose, and the other way round.
  • Arm length. From the hinge to the tip that goes behind your ear.

Havaners Wayfarer-style measurements

All our Wayfarer-style frames share the same shape and size, so if one fits, they all fit.

Measurement Size
Frame width 141 mm
Lens width 54 mm
Lens height 42 mm
Bridge width 18 mm
Arm length 132 mm

That's a medium fit that suits most adult faces. It covers Phantom, Silverback, Midnight, Inferno, Glacier, Alpine, H20, California, Sunset, Turtle Bay, Reef, Nomad, Pharaoh, Orchid and Nebula.

Aviator and round frames

Our aviators (Miami, Malibu and Shadow) and rounds (Equinox, Sahara and Oceano) have their own shapes. Aviators have a teardrop lens that sits a little lower on the cheek, and rounds have a softer, more compact look. If you'd like the exact numbers for one of these before you order, email sales@havaners.com and we'll send them over.

Find your size using a pair you already own

  1. Look inside the arm. Most sunglasses print three numbers there, something like 54 □ 18 140. That's lens width, bridge width and arm length in millimetres.
  2. Measure the front. Lay the pair face down and measure across from hinge to hinge with a ruler. That's the frame width.
  3. Compare. If your favourite pair is within a few millimetres of ours, ours should feel much the same.

Measure your face without a pair

Stand in front of a mirror and hold a ruler across your face, just under your eyes. Measure from the outer edge of one temple to the other. As a rough guide, under about 130 mm is a narrower face, 130 to 140 mm is medium, and over 140 mm is wider. Our 141 mm Wayfarer-style frame sits comfortably on medium faces and gives a slightly bolder look on narrower ones.

Signs of a good fit

  • Your eyebrows sit just above the top of the frame, or line up with it.
  • The frame doesn't rest on your cheeks when you smile.
  • The arms run straight back to your ears without pressing on your temples.
  • They stay put when you look down at your phone.

What do the numbers on sunglasses mean?

The three numbers inside the arm are lens width, bridge width and arm length in millimetres. For example 54 18 140 means 54 mm lenses, an 18 mm bridge and 140 mm arms.

What size are Havaners Wayfarer-style sunglasses?

141 mm frame width, 54 mm lens width, 42 mm lens height, 18 mm bridge and 132 mm arms. Every Havaners Wayfarer-style frame is the same size.

How do I know if sunglasses are too big?

If they slide down your nose, sit on your cheeks or stick out past the sides of your face, they're too big. The frame should be about as wide as your face at the temples.

Are Havaners sunglasses unisex?

Yes. Every Havaners frame is unisex and designed to fit most adult faces.

What if my sunglasses don't fit?

You can return them within 30 days. See our Shipping and Returns page for how.
